News: PS3 Firmware (v3.21) Update

It has been announced that a new Firmware update (v3.21) will be coming to the PS3 system on April 1st, 2010.  Good news right?  Wrong!

They are taking out the feature of installing an operating system onto your PS3.  Now if you have a Slim you probably never saw this feature...That's because it was never on the Slim.  It is only available on the older versions of the PS3 system.

Some people think they are clever saying: "I just won't update then".
This is directly from the blog and anyone who said the above will be crushed:

Consumers and organizations that currently use the “Other OS” feature can choose not to upgrade their PS3 systems, although the following features will no longer be available;

  • Ability to sign in to PlayStation Network and use network features that require signing in to PlayStation Network, such as online features of PS3 games and chat

  • Playback of PS3 software titles or Blu-ray Disc videos that require PS3 system software version 3.21 or later

  • Playback of copyright-protected videos that are stored on a media server (when DTCP-IP is enabled under Settings)

  • Use of new features and improvements that are available on PS3 system software 3.21 or later
So you don't have to make the update, but you can't use any online features if you don't.  This update should only be ignored by people that need their PS3 as a reliable computer.

Hope this was informative,
Frank
